Tattooing for a Cause, helping abused children!

Monday, November 24th, 2008

In the spirit of being thankful and giving, a Tattoo shop finds a cause to sling ink for.

Nov. 24th

HOOLIGAN’S INK undertook a 24 hour campaign to help out foster children from AUSTIN’S HOUSE. In 24 hours they tattooed about 60 clients who showed up to support the cause, abused and negelected children. By charging $60 for a single tattoo and $50 if you showed up with a canned food Clients were able to give back to the children as well as get some great art.

“All facets of the community come together for this great cause,” said Conrad Buedel of Austin’s House. “We absolutely have to have donations to keep the doors open.”

With the holidays in full gear, many causes are often looking for donations. What made the Austin’s House so special was the meaning it had to shop owner [and artist] Sean Dawley.

“We care about kids,” Dawley said. “My childhood was pretty rough, like everyone who works here. We didn’t have anybody sticking up for us. These kids don’t have anyone sticking up for them.”

If you’re interested in helping out with donations here are the following causes

To pierce the heart

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Oh the art of piercing the flesh! With the endorphines cranked up to high voltage we love the quick shock of awesomeness that a single piercing can inflict. With the most common practice being the ears there are many other places one can be pierced, both visible and non visible! In the past when piercings were done for spiritual purposes common places included, ears, nose, septum and tongue . Now it’s common to have your lip, navel, eyebrows and even genitals pierced . Even more unique to todays western youth culture is the gaining popularity of surface piercings. Surface piercings occur over parts of the body that are flat and actually run under a section of skin. Common places include the arms and nape of the neck, with the downside being a high rate of rejection.

Here’s a rough guide on healing times-

In the late-18th and early-19th centuries collecting tattooed Maori heads became so popular in Europe that many Maoris were murdered to supply the trade. Crazy right?!

Keep ‘em Comming!

We love the fully tatted, and his ink is pretty hot. Especially loving the neck piece.

Ever wonder which body part ranks highest as the most painful location for a tattoo? We here at android boys have decided have created a pain index to answer your questions as well as help you on your quest for eternal art.

We’ve used a scale of one to five to demonstrate the estimated amount of pain you’d feel for the duration of your tatt.

1- “dude it barely hurt, i totally fell asleep on the table”
2- “:A bee stings, still no blood. ” [we'll there's a little blood]
3- “Just hold my hand and shut up!”
4-”ouch are you done yet?!”
5-”Relax. Breathe. Find your happy place.”

Ankle- 5
Back-3
Butt- 1
Bicep- 3
Breast-1

Chest-4
Eyeballs-5
Face- 5
Foot-4
Forearms- 2

Genitals-5
Head-5
Hip-4

Knuckles-3
Legs-2
Lip-5

Neck-3
Ribs-5
Stomach-1
Thighs-1
Wrist-3

Don’t forget to note, that color, shading, and size of the piece can greatly affect the pain indicator! Tattoos always start out with an outline [the not so painful part], then the shading [getting painful] and then coloring [painful]. - Coloring is usually done with more needles than the outline and is a repeated process. Touch ups are usually recommended.

Eye Candy

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Still Looking for more eye candy. If you happen to find this site, please feel free to use the submissions form to submit pictures. This is a great example of what we’re looking for, and we can see his face and  his art.  Totally digging that chest piece.

Before we go, here are some fun filled tatfacts to enlighten your day.

Since we’re still in a political stir over recent events…

  • National survey of adults shows that Democrats more likely to have tattoos, but regret for getting them is highest among Republicans.
  • Democrats are more likely to have tattoos (18%) than Republicans (14%) and Independents (12%) while nearly equal percentages of males (16%) and females (15%) have tattoos.

Based on search engine inquires

  • Virtually every language is searched for in tattoo designs: from Aztec
sayings to Russian phrases, but Japanese and Chinese characters/symbols
are among the most frequently searched.
  • Location, location, location: Backs rank the highest in searches(lower, upper and all over). But, not far behind: necks, arms, wrists and ankles. Unmentionables also rank high.
  • LA fashion week reminds us once again that trends come and go. But,while the Devil may wear Prada, Search Engine Ask.com reveals that tattoos have been stealing the scene as the #1 searched beauty term since 2003. No longer taboo, the popularity of tattoos prove that skin is always in.
  • Among Americans with tattoos, 34% said having a tattoo has made them feel sexier. Interestingly, more tattooed females (42%) feel this way than males (25%).
  • additionally, those with tattoos said that having a tattoo has made them feel more rebellious (29%) while others said a tattoo makes them feel more attractive (26%). But tattoos apparently won’t do much for your intelligence or your physique, as few Americans reported that tattoos make them feel more intelligent (5%), more healthy (4%), or more athletic (3%). [duh!]

ok, so that was a bit dated. albeit still interesting. Thanks vanishingtattoo.com

Greetings
